Simone Wu, Singapore writer, editor and author

ABOUT ME

I’m Simone Wu – a writer and editor with over two decades of experience across magazines, corporate content and everything in between.

My path into writing wasn’t conventional. I began with a diploma in mechanical engineering, then transitioned to fashion marketing and management, before discovering my passion for words in a public relations module. My lecturer recommended me for a Harper’s Bazaar editorial internship, which I followed with an internship at ELLE Singapore. After a year in TV wardrobe styling (when writing jobs were scarce), I found my footing as a contract writer at STYLE: magazine.

The unconventional route left me with imposter syndrome for years – you can read the full story of why it took me 20 years to finally build this website. But over time, I realised that background was my strength – I could approach stories from multiple angles and write for anyone, from senior executives to the beauty-obsessed.

Most recently, I spent five years leading APAC-wide content strategy for a global recruitment firm, collaborating with teams across 12 markets. Much of that work was invisible by design – writing that carried other people’s names and voices – which turned out to be the best possible training for ghostwriting.

Beyond corporate storytelling, I’m building two author identities: Wu Shimin, for children’s books inspired by the delightfully ridiculous things kids do; and Mongsy, for romance that’s bold and unapologetic. I wrote about what connects these two worlds in Writing for kids and adults: How two very different genres share the same heart.

When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me with a book in hand, rearranging a corner of my home, or cheering (too loudly) at my son’s football matches.

Based in Singapore, I work with leaders and organisations across the region – ghostwriting, editorial writing, and the occasional rescue of a draft that isn’t quite working. Here’s what I do and how to reach me – or if you’re a fellow content creator, I keep a few free resources here.
